Charrette

An intense, collaborative session in which a group of designers draft solutions to a problem during a limited period of activity (such as a single week).

A charrette is focused on making quick progress even if the details are not fully resolved. It is a structured attempt at realizing the pareto principle – where 80% of the affect is achieved in the first 20% of effort.

Studio

The studio concept has at least three key facets: it’s a way of working, it’s a physical space dedicated to the project, and it’s an effective team. To be “in studio” is to collaboratively work towards a solution. This way of working nurtures ideas that exist at the intersection of areas of expertise.
